SHGC

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient

Measures how much solar heat passes through the glass — lower is better for cooling. California's 2026 Title 24 code targets an SHGC of 0.23 or lower for new and replacement windows in most Southern California climate zones. Window film isn't itself Title 24-certified the way a manufactured window is, but professional film is a widely used way to meaningfully improve existing glass toward that target without a full replacement.

VLT

Visible Light Transmission

How much natural light passes through. Higher VLT (50–70%) keeps a near-clear look; lower VLT (15–35%) adds stronger glare control at the cost of some brightness.

TSER

Total Solar Energy Rejected
